Biodegradation
Assessing Persistence of Chemicals in the Environment
ABC Laboratories offers comprehensive biodegradation program services to determine the rate and extent of biodegradation in a particular environmental compartment which may include matrices from a sewage treatment plant (STP), water, and sediment or soil. Biodegradation studies (including ready, inherent, and ultimate biodegradability) are conducted under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) to support regulatory compliance requirements of the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. ABC also conducts non-GLP screening programs and can modify existing methods to address specific issues.
Unless you have information on the toxicity of the test substances at the concentration to be evaluated in the biodegradability test, it is recommended to screen for toxicity using the activated sludge, respiration inhibition test (OECD 209). As with biodegradability testing, we can perform non-GLP screens or complete GLP tests. ABC Laboratories conducts this test using a Strathkelvin Instruments Respirometer specifically designed for the OECD 209 test.
Chemicals may have long-term effects on the soil microorganisms. ABC Laboratories offers the carbon and nitrogen transformation tests to investigate these effects after a single exposure. |
